Anyone who knows me, knows I love a rooftop bar (check out my guide to London’s top rooftop bars here), and Savage Garden’s Pinsa & Spritz bottomless brunch delivers the full London-from-above fantasy. Perched high over the City, it’s the sort of Saturday that starts with a “wow” at the panoramic views and quickly turns into “we’re definitely staying for another spritz.” It’s a spot where as soon as you sit down you just know you’re not going to want to leave, and as soon as you taste the food and drinks, your fate is sealed! Here’s what we thought of Savage Garden Bottomless Brunch.

First impressions

I arrived just after midday and the room was already buzzing with a DJ setting the tempo, sunlight catching the skyline, and those signature blush-pink touches popping against slate greys and glass. It feels glam without being pretentious; you can come with the girls, celebrate a birthday, or just treat yourself to a city day that feels a little extra.

The Concept of Savage Garden Bottomless Brunch (and why it works)

Savage Garden’s Pinsa & Spritz bottomless brunch offers a 90-minute, bottomless take on Roman-style pinsa (lighter, airier than a traditional pizza) paired with a line-up of curated spritzes. The result? A brunch that knocks others out the park. You’ll feast on crispy-edged dough with bold toppings, and sip cocktails designed to refresh rather than knock you out. It’s playful, pacey, and very shareable.

The Food at Savage Garden Pinsa & Spritz Bottomless Brunch

savage garden london rooftop bar

I started with What a Jerk! a delicious meld of jerk-spiced chicken, grilled pineapple, a hit of plantain ketchup and pineapple sriracha, finished with a glossy drizzle of Japanese mayo. It sounds chaotic; it eats like a sunshine holiday. It was light, packed with flavour and the ideal accompaniment to the Spritz cocktails.
The friend I was with opted for Swim Swim—smoked salmon, red onion, crispy capers, dill cream cheese and citrus sour cream. Clean, salty, bright and perfect against the richer pinsas.
For those who was something punchier, Beef Talkin’ Pizza! packs ssamjang-flavoured pulled beef, tenderstem broccoli, creamy burrata and hot-honey chilli. It’s the table favourite for good reason!

Veggies and vegans aren’t sidelined: Say Hello to my Little Artichoke (marinated artichoke, wilted spinach, courgette ribbons, pickled mint) is herby and elegant, while Lean & Green brings crushed chickpeas, turmeric-roasted cauli and melty vegan cheese, offering a dish that’s comforting and delicious.

Sides? Get the truffle parmesan fries (of course), and if you’re feeling indulgent the loaded fries with pulled beef and cheese are unapologetically decadent.

Dessert wise you won’t be disappointed. You must try the Pandan & Coconut (a warm pandan bun with coconut ice cream and raspberry) which was wonderfully aromatic and creamy, while Le Frenchy Toast comes pink, berry-loaded and unapologetically Instagrammable. At £6 extra, it’s an easy yes to share.

The Drinks

savage garden bottomless brunch

Head mixologist Alessandro Lintas has built a spritz list that actually earns its keep. Ciao Bella, a mix of Tokubetsu Sake, green apple and basil liqueurs, elderflower & cucumber, topped with Bottega Prosecco, is crisp, floral and just a touch fruity. If you’re not drinking, Amore De Zio (Lyre’s Amaretti, Everleaf Forest, kombucha) is sophisticated: nutty, botanical, and delicious.

Vibe & service

savage garden bottomless brunch

Music up, mood high, staff on it. Dishes landed quickly, glasses were topped up without chasing. The team were also happy to steer us through the menu so we could try a bit of everything in the 90-minutes. It’s bottomless brunch without the chaos. Where you can savour the moment (and the views) and catch up with friends in a chilled yet refined setting.

Best for

  • Girls’ day out with skyline selfies
  • Birthdays and “we just felt like it” celebrations
  • Pre-afternoon plans in the City (you’ll float out nicely fed and lightly spritzed)

Need to know

  • When: Saturdays, 12:00–15:00 in 90-minute sittings
  • Dietaries: Strong veggie/vegan options
  • Booking: Reservations recommended (it fills fast)

The Seen in the City verdict

Savage Garden has nailed bottomless brunch: views, vibe, and a menu that feels creative without trying too hard. The pinsa is light enough to keep you going, and the spritz list is genuinely interesting (alcoholic and not). Come for the skyline, stay for the jerk-pineapple-hot-honey situation, and leave already planning your next visit.

Smith of Smithfield London review

The Food & Dining Experience at Smiths of Smithfield Restaurant

We are lead through to The Grill, which holds a 1 AA Rosette. There is celebrated for its premium steaks, including a 16oz, 28-day aged Scottish bone-in ribeye that not only tastes divine but is presented beautifully too. The quality of the meat is incredible, with each dish cooked to emphasise tenderness and flavour. The rooftop restaurant offers a lighter menu featuring fresh seafood and an extensive wine list, complemented by panoramic views of the City and St. Paul’s Cathedral – what more could you ask for when dining in the city?

Protein,mate healthy takeaway london

The flagship Protein, mate space has opened in the City of London, introducing a bold, nutrition-forward approach to fast-casual takeaway. At its core is a curated, protein-rich menu that reimagines the traditional grab-and-go offering.

Central to the menu are the Morning and Midday Trays, each featuring a signature protein bake and customisable with a seasonal crunch, dip and salad mix. Each complete tray delivers 30–50 grams of protein, redefining the ‘meal deal’ for today’s busy Londoner.

Inspired by Family, Informed by Experience

Founded by Australian-born Luke Fredberg, Protein, mate was inspired by a simple realisation: his family struggled to consume enough protein to power their busy days. Determined to change that, Luke began crafting these tray bakes in his own kitchen, blending vibrant flavours with everyday convenience.

“Protein is a daily essential, and getting enough shouldn’t feel like a chore,” said Luke Fredberg, Founder of Protein, mate. “Endless chicken and broccoli just wasn’t inspiring, so I began creating delicious, nutrient dense bakes for my family. Friends tried them and kept asking for a way to enjoy them on-the-go. Fast forward 12 months, and the idea has come to life in the heart of the City of London.”

The Smoothies

Complementing the food options are Protein, mate’s signature Cloud Smoothies. Inspired by the Los Angeles’ cult smoothie scene, each blend features a proprietary coconut cloud swirl with a choice of plant-based protein or organic, cold-filtered whey and enhanced with functional ingredients, including adaptogens, probiotics, and antibacterial elements. The result: a decadent yet functional protein boost, crafted for busy professionals on the move.

A Menu Committed to Tasty Recipes and Protein Content

The entire menu was overseen by triple board-certified internal medicine physician Dr. Sanjeet K. Baidwan, ensuring nutritional integrity. The menu avoids ultra-processed ingredients, artificial sweeteners, gums, and fillers, opting instead for real ingredients and thoughtful provisions that sustain its community of ‘mates’ throughout the day while cutting through the noise that often surrounds protein. The brand has also introduced a set of standards, called “Metrics, mate,” underscoring Protein, mate’s commitment to transparency around recipes, ingredients, and protein content.

Powered by Collaboration

Protein, mate has partnered with the UK’s leading food development consultancy, Egg Soldiers, and specialty roaster Ozone Coffee, bringing together expertise in food, nutrition, and exceptional coffee.

“Luke’s vision for Protein, mate redefines fast-casual takeaway, merging nutritional excellence with vibrant, global flavours. We’re excited to help launch this unique and practical concept in London,” said Toph Ford, Director at Egg Soldiers.

With ethically sourced beans and a focus on quality, Ozone provides a coffee experience that enhances and complements Protein, mate’s menu and signature Cloud Smoothies.

Expect the unexpected, menu highlights include nostalgic nods to Aussie classics like a lamington filled with protein cream, blue spirulina eggs, dirty martini dip and a London-exclusive, protein cold foam layered over Ozone coffee.

Shaping the Future of Fast-Casual Takeaway

From a family kitchen to the heart of the City, Protein, mate offers a fresh approach to fast-casual takeaway. By combining convenience with nutrient dense, flavour packed food, it delivers exactly what London needs: smart, satisfying meals for life on-the-move.

With strong backing and a clear expansion strategy, Protein mate is designed to grow beyond its flagship site and bring its protein-forward approach to new areas of the City and other neighbourhoods across London.

Tips for brunch in Canary Wharf

  • Check the days that brunch is available. Some restaurants offer it seven days a week, others only on the weekend.
  • Book your brunch in Canary Wharf as far in advance as possible. Brunches can get busy meaning you may miss out on your chosen choice if you turn up on the day.
  • If you are after a bottomless brunch, check what drinks are included. Often they will vary depending on the restaurant. You may be interested in our bottomless afternoon teas in London.

Gordon Ramsay Restaurants Global and The Clermont Hotel Group are proud to announce the arrival of Hell’s Kitchen to the United Kingdom. Opening in Spring 2026 at Marble Arch’s iconic Cumberland Hotel, this landmark launch marks the beginning of a multi-site partnership between the two powerhouse hospitality groups.

UK Hells kitchen

Inspired by the hit television series created by Michelin starred chef Gordon Ramsay, Hell’s Kitchen brings the drama and energy of the show directly to the table. Gordon Ramsay Restaurants Global has crafted an immersive dining experience that captures the intensity of the series while pairing outstanding food and drink with world class service.

Since debuting its flagship in Las Vegas in 2018, Hell’s Kitchen has become a global favourite with eight locations across the United States and Europe. The restaurants have served over one million Beef Wellingtons and continue to draw fans in destinations including Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Southern California, Atlantic City, Washington D.C., Connecticut, Miami and Ibiza. Now, London will finally join the family in Spring 2026.

Situated in one of London’s most sought-after locations, The Cumberland champions the city’s cultural and music scene, inspired by its rich history of housing music legends. With 900 bedrooms, extensive meeting and event spaces and a newly evolved food, beverage and entertainment offering, the hotel blends comfort and quality while catering to the needs of both leisure and corporate guests.

This iconic setting will provide the perfect stage for the UK’s first Hell’s Kitchen. Guests can expect a striking new restaurant filled with theatre and performance, an open kitchen where the brigade works in full view and a contemporary bar showcasing the latest trends in mixology.

Gordon Ramsay says: “Bringing Hell’s Kitchen to the UK for the first time is an incredible full circle moment. London is where it all began in 1998, so this feels like a real homecoming. Hell’s Kitchen is about fire, theatre and bold flavours, and I can’t wait to share the signature dishes guests love alongside new creations, developed especially for London’s diners.”

The menu at Hell’s Kitchen London will feature a mix of signature favourites and new dishes. Guests can enjoy Ramsay’s celebrated Beef Wellington, Seared Scallops and Lobster Risotto, along with indulgent desserts such as Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple Butterscotch Cheesecake.

The bar will enhance the experience with expertly crafted cocktails. Highlights include Notes from Gordon, a refreshing blend of Plymouth Dry Gin, green tea, lemongrass, peach and lemon, complete with a personal message from Gordon. An extensive wine list will also be available, showcasing exceptional bottles from across the world to complement the menu.

Pedro da Silva, General Manager at The Cumberland Hotel, says: “We are very proud to be the first venue to welcome Hell’s Kitchen to the UK. We look forward to offering hotel guests and visitors alike a taste of Gordon Ramsay’s iconic dishes, all within our  hotel.”

Hell’s Kitchen at The Cumberland Hotel will open in Spring 2026.

The sky, a marbled midnight blue and green, hangs heavy over the water. A green light shines across the bay; the glow of it dancing over the waves in a shimmering triangle. It’s a magical night, except that I’m not standing on a sea shore. I’m sitting in Row 3 inside the London Coliseum in inebriated admiration of the screen on the stage; so close that it feels as though I could touch the water if I reached out. The Royal Boxes are above my head, and around me everyone is caught in the rapture of it all, trying to entrap the feeling on their smartphones before the curtains have even been raised; the ornate domed ceiling, green lights beaming upwards like lasers and the excitement of a perfect summer’s evening in London.

great gatsby afternoon tea

A group of us had walked to the theater from The Palm Court at the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane where we sipped non-alcoholic West Egg Sour cocktails and Champagne with the hotel’s The Great Gatsby: Only Afternoon Tea!. The themed afternoon tea, an official partnership with The Great Gatsby: A New Musical at The London Coliseum, is served in The Palm Court’s original 1927 setting at the heart of the Sheraton Grand London Park Lane.

Against a backdrop of marble floors, and Art Deco tapestries we enjoyed Rockefeller smoked salmon tart, Tom’s roast sirloin and michaud sauce sandwiches, East Egg truffle salad and Gatsby Club sandwiches. Next came Jazz-mine meringue pie, Daisy’s tropical choux which, incidentally, was finished with a passion fruit glaze, and the standout kirsch-soaked Gatsby Forest Gâteau; the grand finale before we headed out to the London Coliseum.

Now, the curtain finally raises to the Tony Award® winning adaptation of, what in my humble opinion, is one of the greatest works of literature in the English language: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Since the novel’s copyright expired in 2021 there have been several prequels, sequels and adaptations of the story. It has enraged purists but conversely implies every writer’s wildest dream; a tale that endures.

Back at the London Coliseum Jamie Muscato as Jay Gatsby and Frances Mayli McCann as Daisy Buchanan depicts the ill-fated lovers. Amber Davies plays a lithe Jordan Baker to Corbin Bleu’s bookish Nick Carraway. The Art Deco sets and costumes dazzled, the choreography turned the heat up and all around me the audience was held captive by the high-octane energy of the production. The strong vocals of the entire cast brought the house down and earned them a justly-deserved standing ovation at the end. It was a monumental nod to the excesses and frivolities of America in the Roaring Twenties.

This period of history, whenever it’s revived, takes our thoughts to the New York skyline and Art Deco evoking a sense that is unmistakably American. It must however, always be acknowledged that this movement began in France. It was about rebuilding the world after the trauma of war. The Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts), on the banks of the Seine and around the Grand Palais in April 1925, asserted France as  the pinnacle of good taste. Across the pond, in the same month of the same year, a novel about a bootlegger, fervent with the most basic of human desires – the need to be chosen, which at the time was reviewed badly and even sold poorly, that the author himself delcalred, “Of all the reviews, even the most enthusiastic, not one had the slightest idea what the book was about,” became intrinsically linked to Art Deco. They both turned 100 years old in 2025. Now another two greats, Sheraton Grand London Park Lane and The Great Gatsby: A New Musical, have come together in celebration. And we are all invited to the party.

Since having a baby back in 2023, I found myself slipping into poor eating habits, often picking convenience over health and rarely finding time to the gym. If I did find the time, I was often so overcome with tiredness by the time my little one was in bed that I didn’t have the energy. But as Summer 2025 loomed closer and my toddler had been sleeping through the night for a very long time, I found I was just making excuses for why I couldn’t better myself. I would wince in the mirror, wear baggier clothes to try and mask my figure and blame it all on being postpartum. And while I fully understood postpartum was a factor in building bad habits, I could only blame it on this for so long. So I decided to finally do something about it.

I dusted the gym card from the back of my purse and decided I needed something to really incentivise me and get me on my journey. So I looked into a juice cleanse. I figured, what better way to spur me on than just go into my health journey head first. I’ve always loved a cold-press juice and a challenge, so figured this was a great combination of the both. Upon researching different brands, the one I settled on was PRESS London

PRESS London Juice Cleanse Review: Does It Actually Work?

PRESS London Juice Cleanse Review: Does It Actually Work?

Founded by two Londoners, Ed and Georgie, who met in LA and bonded over their love of cold-pressed juice and all things healthy. They soon turned this into a mission to bring healthy plant-based nutrition to the UK with a range of convenient, quality health drinks designed to have on the go.

What cleanses do PRESS London offer?

There’s a wide range of cleanses on their site, each including a carefully curated daily schedule of eight cold-pressed juices, offering a variety of fruit and vegetable blends meant to support resetting the digestive system, increasing energy, and promoting wellness. Some of the options include:

  • 7 Days to Enlightenment – their most immersive cleanse, providing a week-long experience designed to reset habits, boost energy, and transform daily routines.

PRESS London Signature Juice Cleanse – My Experience

PRESS Signature Cleanse juices

I decided to try their Signature juice cleanse for one day, to see how it went. This is what I found:

When ordering I picked a day for the juices to arrive, selecting the following Monday for a kickstart to my week. The juices are designed to be drunk in lieu of food, over the day, starting at 8am and finishing at 9pm. The bottles are beautifully designed and the slick aesthetic does help get you in the mindset that you’re having something that’s really good for you.

8am – Super Celery

The day began at 8am with the super celery drink, a blend of celery and lemon. It was more bitter than I was anticipating, and while I didn’t necessarily love the flavour, I didn’t dislike it either. “It tastes like pure health!” I said to my husband as he sipped his latte. Packed with 15 vitamins and minerals, research suggests celery juice can help reduce inflammation and boost gut health. It was a good start to the juices and I didn’t feel hungry for breakfast.

9am – Ginger Shot

9am came, I’d dropped my son off at nursery and was on my way to the gym. I’m a sucker for a ginger shot anyway, so this was an easy one to drink. A blend of ginger, apple and lemon, it was tangy, powerful and a perfect caffeine-free kick.

11am – Apple & Cinnamon Shake

Post-workout I was feeling hungry, so this came at the ideal time. The apple and cinnamon shake was my favourite of the day (I’m a sucker for a sweet treat) and I could have easily drunk about four of these in a row. Light, creamy and sweet, it’s made with oat milk and low in saturated fat. It gave me an energy boost, filled me up, and the hints of banana and oatiness gave it a really nice finish.

1pm – Sweet Greens

While watching my husband tuck into a large sandwich, I sipped demurely on my sweet greens juice, already feeling lighter and more energetic than I usually do at this time of day. A balance of sweet apple and leafy green veg such as kale and spinach, it tasted really nice and got rid of any hunger pangs I usually feel around lunchtime. Slightly sweet, this juice is packed with beta-carotene, proven to support eye health and skin health, as well as boosting immunity.

4pm – Super Ginger

A zingy afternoon pick-me-up, the super ginger juice was my second favourite of the day. Made with ginger root and lemon, as well as a touch of apple, it provides immune-boosting and antioxidant properties. It was warm and fiery, but also sweet and zesty at once, being a welcome replacement for my afternoon coffee.

7pm – Lean Greens

As 7pm rolled around I was surprised that I wasn’t feeling any hunger pangs as I’d expected to be ravenous by this point. It was challenging at dinner time watching my husband and toddler tuck into a Carbonara, but I could easily sip my drink and not feel too much of an urge to whisk the spaghetti out of my two-year-olds grasp and into my own mouth. The juices were a lot more filling than I had expected and with such a variety of flavours, it felt varied and exciting too. The lean greens is PRESS London’s greenest juice going and is a mix of kale, spinach, Celery, Cucumber, Ginger, Parsley and Lemon.

8pm – Clean Carrot

As 8pm rolled around, when I would usually sit down with a snack, I found I was looking forward to my juice. My stomach was rumbling a bit by this point, but I figured this meant the juices were working their magic! The Clean Carrot juice is a source of both Vitamin A & C, perfect for the production of healthy skin cells and is made from carrot, orange, apple and ginger. It was slightly sweet, had a bit of a tang and was really refreshing. This would also be great post-workout to give you a boost of hydration.

9pm – Pomegranate & Raspberry

The last juice of the day came at 9pm and was a lovely mango and passion fruit probiotic water. The tartness of the passion fruit with the creaminess of mango made it a really lovely juice to end the day on. Some people report getting headaches on cleanses, but I found I felt so hydrated by all of the juices I hadn’t been impacted. Great for the gut, each water contains 1Bn+ Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086, which helps to balance the friendly bacteria in your digestive system.

So Did The PRESS Juice Cleanse Work?

PRESS London Juice Cleanse Review: Does It Actually Work?

In short? Yes. I woke up the next morning and my coffee didn’t quite cut it the same, although it was nice to eat some solid food. My body felt lighter, more energised and as though my body had been through a thorough cleanse. I had wondered how hungry I would feel throughout the day, but it felt like there were enough juices to keep you going instead of rifling through the snack drawer. If you were restricted to just three or four a day, it would be much more challenging, but I was excited to try the next one every few hours.

While a one-day cleanse is shorter than others they offer, it made a difference not only to how I felt physically, but also to my mindset. Once I saw how resilient I could be in a day and how good it made me feel, it meant I didn’t want to eat anything bad, and I was hankering to get back down the gym. The mental benefits were just as good as the physical and for those that don’t necessarily want a long cleanse, a one day is a fantastic boost both in more ways than one.

My Main Takeaways:

  • 8 juices in one day
  • Good variety of flavours
  • Plenty of health benefits
  • Made me feel lighter physically and helped kickstart my mindset
  • Good price range
  • Plenty of different plans to try

In a nutshell:
  • One of London’s tiniest wine bars
  • Located in Fitzrovia
  • Bold Latin American small plates and snacks
  • Wine list of around 50 bottles
  • Drinks also include spritzes, negronis and beers
  • Intimate design, perfect for nights with friends or dates with your other half

What to expect from Tiny Wine Fitzrovia

Tiny Wine Fitzrovia

Proving that size really dosn’t matter Tiny Wine, one of London’s smallest wine bars, has officially opened at 21 Foley Street in Fitzrovia. The new neighbourhood spot comes from Maria Yanez and Carlos Socorro, founders of the Latin American restaurant group Crudo Cocina Latina. Tiny Wine pairs a thoughtfully curated wine list with bold Latin American small plates and snacks in an intimate (and tiny) setting.

Located on the corner of two intersecting Fitzrovian streets, with a charming neighbourhood feel but only a stone’s throw away from the bustle of Soho and Oxford Circus, Tiny Wine is bursting with Latin American warmth, a love of connection and an appreciation for simple things done beautifully. A small wine bar with a big soul, it’s a place guests might wander into for just one glass and end up staying the whole night. Full of ambience and a community, guests will always be guaranteed to find conversation, soft Latin beats and glasses passed between tables.

What wine and drinks are on the menu?

tiny wine fitzrovia

Tiny by name, but massively into wine, Tiny Wine is a perfectly-sized place for buying, tasting and discovering wine, with a thoughtfully chosen range that has everything from classic to lesser-known grapes and styles. The wine list is intentionally small in size (around 50 bottles), made up of mostly natural or low-intervention wines sourced from small producers, trusted and admired for particular reasons and changing with the seasons. In addition to the range of wines on offer, the drinks menu also features an eclectic mix of spritzes, negronis and beers, including a tequila ginger spritz, spicy margarita spritz and mezcal negroni.

What food does Tiny Wine Fitzrovia offer?

With all food made for sharing and most to be eaten with your hands, the menu features a hand-picked selection of Bar snacks, Gildas – savoury Basque skewers with a Latin American twist, Bocadilllos – gourmet mini sandwiches, crafted for pairing with great wine and of course Tapas. Highlights include: Mixto cevicheSmokey octopus gilda and the two Miami-inspired sandwiches on the menu, the Cubanito, featuring pulled pork, honey ham, cheese, Dijon mustard, pickles and the Romeo & Julieta, featuring mozzarella, guava and rocotoAs much about culture as about comfort, the sweet and salty combo of the guava with the cheese are staples across Miami.

How about the interiors?

The 200 sq. foot venue is made up of four distinct, intimate areas. The main floor features textured walls, soft arches and a central bar, with seating for 22 covers at high tables. A standing wine shop space holds up to 10 people, inviting guests to browse and mingle. Outside, al fresco tables provide space for 10 covers, perfect for soaking up the Fitzrovia buzz. Downstairs, The Secret Room is a hidden private dining space for up to 16 guests, ideal for intimate parties, tastings and get-togethers.

Maria Yanez, Co-Founder of Tiny Wine says: ‘We’re very excited to be launching Tiny Wine as a brand new concept. Tiny Wine was born from a love of the little things: small producers, cosy spaces and great conversation. The Fitzrovia space felt like the perfect home for a wine bar that’s all about big flavours in small pours and bold Latin American bites.’

Tiny Wine is now open, offering a small but iconic space where Latin warmth, great wine and good people come together for truly memorable nights.

There’s just something about High Street Kensington that feels special. Most known for its shopping and retail offerings, famous historical landmarks such as Kensington Palace and rich culinary offering, it’s a spot in London that could easily feel over-commercialised, yet there’s something about it that still feels very neighbourhood-y.

I’m visiting on a balmy summer’s day, where the trees are blooming with vibrant leaves, the sky is a bright blue and the air feels relaxed. I’m here to experience the perfect day in High Street Kensington, marrying together culture, history, food and a bit of relaxation too. Here’s my guide to how to spend a day in High St Kensington.

10am – Visit the Design Museum

When you first arrive in High Street Kensington take a leisurely stroll down to the Design Museum. One of the most iconic Museums in London, it’s a fantastic place to get your culture fix and delve into the wonderful world of design. While there is plenty of the museum that’s free, there are also rotating paid-for exhibitions that are well worth visiting. I was lucky enough to see ‘Splash! A century of Swimming and Style’ which is currently on until the 17th August. Examining the enduring love of water over the past hundred years, items on display include Pamela Anderson’s red bathing suit from Baywatch, the first Olympic solo swimming gold medal won by a British woman and one of the earliest surviving examples of a bikini. It’s a beautiful and really interesting exhibition that I recommend taking your time to wander around and look at the 200-strong items on display.

Take a trip to the gift shop on your way out and if you have time, grab a coffee to sip in the lobby. The building itself is beautiful and the atmosphere makes it a fantastic place to just sit and pass some time.

Prices £14.38 adults, £7.19 children 6-15 yrs and £10.77 concessions.

12pm – Head to Leighton House and Sambourne House

Once you’ve got your design fix, it’s onto a little more culture with a trip to Leighton House and Sambourne House. Tucked away a little off the main road and feeling truly like a London hidden gem, they’re both stunning architecturally from the outside, beautiful inside and have a true oasis of calm out the back. Leighton House is the historical artist studio-home of celebrated painter Lord Frederic Leighton, you can take your time to wander through the home, see his paintings and learn more about his history. Nearby is Sambourne house, a Victorian time capsule and what was once the home of Punch magazine illustrator Edward Linley Sambourne. The house is largely unchanged so offers an insightful glimpse into the past.

On a sunny day such as when I visited, it’s worth spending time in the garden out the back where you can throw yourself down on the grass and bask in the sun’s rays or read a book in one of the deckchairs. You can buy a drink, snack or light bite – although we didn’t do this as there was a fantastic lunch to come!

1pm – Lunch at Origin – Royal Garden Hotel Origin restaurant

Finding somewhere to eat in High Street Kensington can be a challenge because there are just so many choices. If you’re after somewhere perfectly located and where you know you’ll get treated that little bit special, Origin in the Royal Garden Hotel is an effortless choice. We were seated at a table right at the window, overlooking Kensington Gardens, bathed in natural sunlight. Origin blends contemporary European cuisine with fresh, seasonal ingredients, and it was hard to pick just what to eat as it all looked delicious. There was a range of vibrant salads, gourmet sandwiches, and mains like roasted sea bass, truffle-infused pasta, or succulent grilled meats, all crafted with an emphasis on bold flavors and elegant presentation. We tucked into freshly baked bread, Lovage custard with celery, pistachios & wild garlic and a delicious wye valley asparagus. For mains I had the wild garlic gnocchi while my partner opted for the fish and chips – both were as well presented as they were packed with flavour. It’s the perfect place to stop for a midday refresh and ideal to refuel you before heading back out again to explore!

Once you’ve finished eating, download the 12-minute wellness tour of Kensington Gardens, which starts from the Royal Garden Hotel. You can view the accompanying map to get you around here, while you learn all about the nature and historic figures of Kensington Gardens. Being pleasantly full from lunch as we were, the walk is a welcome reprieve and is one of the most stunning spots in the city. Spanning 265 acres in size (large enough to hold 20 Royal Albert Halls) you can either walk or get a bike to cycle around. Stroll down historic tree-lined avenues amid blossoming flowers, taking in the pond and certain sights like the Peter Pan statue and the Albert Memorial in dedication to Queen Victoria’s husband.

3pm – Cocktails and A Look Around Japan House

Finish your day in High Street Kensington with a visit to Japan House. An exhibition space, restaurant, bar and shop, you can while away many hours here just exploring the different things on offer. While I was there, they were showing the Craft of Carpentry exhibition that transports visitors from the living forests that sustain this Japanese tradition to the celebrated structures they produce. The exhibition celebrates the tools and craftsmanship behind Japan’s temples and shrines and even features a life-size reconstruction of the Sa-an teahouse in the temple Daitoku-ji in Kyoto. There is also the chance to enjoy hands-on opportunities to assemble ingenious wood joints and inhale the scents of Japan’s native wood types.

Once you’ve had a good wander round, make your way to Akira on the top floor where you can indulge in a Japanese cocktail to round off your trip. The bar here is sleek and stylish, with a perfect array on offer that’s not overwhelming but you’re sure to find something you like. I have theMiyako which is a blend of Roku gin, Rose, Lime, Pomegranate and Champagne, while my partner opts for the Hyo which is Toki Japanese Whisky, Sambuca, Umeshu and Lime. We sip them slowly and take in the buzz of High Street Kensington below.

101-111 Kensington High Street, London, W8 5SA Opening hours:
Monday to Saturday: 10:00–20:00
Sundays & Bank Holidays: 12:00–18:00
Admission free

For High Street Kensington really is somewhere that has it all. Tall buildings stand shoulder to shoulder down the high street, but the pavements are peppered with luscious trees and wildlife. Flower stalls bloom and it takes a quick duck down a side street and you’re instantly away from the hustle and bustle to a historical landmark. There’s culture, history and culinary delights, an endless list of places to eat and drink and beautiful spaces to enjoy the outdoors. It’s a corner of London that captures a little piece of you each time you visit that keeps you coming back time and time again.
