Going on holiday during winter isn’t just about seeking out snow, or even escaping to a tropical paradise. Increasingly, British holidaymakers are looking for a luxury escape that will provide experiences that last long in the memory. In some cases, these experiences are tested and reliable; in others, they’re a little bit quirkier.

The options are effectively endless. Let’s survey some of the best of them.

The Ski Resort of the Jet-Set in the Alps

When most of us think of winter activity holidays, the first thing that springs to mind is often a high-end ski resort. There are a number of them spread throughout the Alps, with France, Switzerland, Austria, and Italy all offering a slightly different take on Alpine luxury and charm. Depending on your tastes, you might look for a particular balance of traditional chalets, boutique shopping precincts, and Michelin-starred dining.

A Val d’Isere ski break might strike a balance that resonates with many skiers. You’ll be able to enjoy one of the continent’s best and most well-developed resorts, as well as a range of amazing apres-ski activities.

Winter Retreats for Body and Mind

It might be that you’d like to take some time off to recharge. Nowadays, there are a number of quality resorts that are focused entirely on wellness and calm. You might spend your time doing gentle yoga, lying down in a sauna, or getting a massage. Guided meditation, or even complete silence, can provide a potent antidote to the digital stresses of modern life. And if you’re surrounded by a snow-blanketed natural panorama, that antidote can be considerably more effective.

Dining Experiences at Altitude

Increasingly, high-end restaurateurs are setting up shop in the continent’s winter retreats. If you’re going to be heading out to a ski resort, or any other kind of winter-focused destination, then you’ll want to be sure that you’ve investigated the local food options. In many cases, you’ll find that they’re impressive!

Authenticity & Sustainability is The New Luxury

If you’re looking for luxury, then you might find that the most compelling options are also the most sustainable ones. The best resorts tend to have excellent environmental credentials, and they make use of the local culture in a way that celebrates and nourishes it, rather than exploits it. If you’re going to travel to a particular part of the world, after all, isn’t it better to experience it in a way that’s authentic and memorable?

Anyone who knows me, knows I love a rooftop bar (check out my guide to London’s top rooftop bars here), and Savage Garden’s Pinsa & Spritz bottomless brunch delivers the full London-from-above fantasy. Perched high over the City, it’s the sort of Saturday that starts with a “wow” at the panoramic views and quickly turns into “we’re definitely staying for another spritz.” It’s a spot where as soon as you sit down you just know you’re not going to want to leave, and as soon as you taste the food and drinks, your fate is sealed! Here’s what we thought of Savage Garden Bottomless Brunch.

First impressions

I arrived just after midday and the room was already buzzing with a DJ setting the tempo, sunlight catching the skyline, and those signature blush-pink touches popping against slate greys and glass. It feels glam without being pretentious; you can come with the girls, celebrate a birthday, or just treat yourself to a city day that feels a little extra.

savage garden bottomless brunch

The Concept of Savage Garden Bottomless Brunch (and why it works)

Savage Garden’s Pinsa & Spritz bottomless brunch offers a 90-minute, bottomless take on Roman-style pinsa (lighter, airier than a traditional pizza) paired with a line-up of curated spritzes. The result? A brunch that knocks others out the park. You’ll feast on crispy-edged dough with bold toppings, and sip cocktails designed to refresh rather than knock you out. It’s playful, pacey, and very shareable.

The Food at Savage Garden Pinsa & Spritz Bottomless Brunch

savage garden london rooftop bar

I started with What a Jerk! a delicious meld of jerk-spiced chicken, grilled pineapple, a hit of plantain ketchup and pineapple sriracha, finished with a glossy drizzle of Japanese mayo. It sounds chaotic; it eats like a sunshine holiday. It was light, packed with flavour and the ideal accompaniment to the Spritz cocktails.
The friend I was with opted for Swim Swim—smoked salmon, red onion, crispy capers, dill cream cheese and citrus sour cream. Clean, salty, bright and perfect against the richer pinsas.
For those who was something punchier, Beef Talkin’ Pizza! packs ssamjang-flavoured pulled beef, tenderstem broccoli, creamy burrata and hot-honey chilli. It’s the table favourite for good reason!

Veggies and vegans aren’t sidelined: Say Hello to my Little Artichoke (marinated artichoke, wilted spinach, courgette ribbons, pickled mint) is herby and elegant, while Lean & Green brings crushed chickpeas, turmeric-roasted cauli and melty vegan cheese, offering a dish that’s comforting and delicious.

Sides? Get the truffle parmesan fries (of course), and if you’re feeling indulgent the loaded fries with pulled beef and cheese are unapologetically decadent.

Dessert wise you won’t be disappointed. You must try the Pandan & Coconut (a warm pandan bun with coconut ice cream and raspberry) which was wonderfully aromatic and creamy, while Le Frenchy Toast comes pink, berry-loaded and unapologetically Instagrammable. At £6 extra, it’s an easy yes to share.

The Drinks

savage garden bottomless brunch

Head mixologist Alessandro Lintas has built a spritz list that actually earns its keep. Ciao Bella, a mix of Tokubetsu Sake, green apple and basil liqueurs, elderflower & cucumber, topped with Bottega Prosecco, is crisp, floral and just a touch fruity. If you’re not drinking, Amore De Zio (Lyre’s Amaretti, Everleaf Forest, kombucha) is sophisticated: nutty, botanical, and delicious.

Vibe & service

savage garden bottomless brunch

Music up, mood high, staff on it. Dishes landed quickly, glasses were topped up without chasing. The team were also happy to steer us through the menu so we could try a bit of everything in the 90-minutes. It’s bottomless brunch without the chaos. Where you can savour the moment (and the views) and catch up with friends in a chilled yet refined setting.

Best for

  • Girls’ day out with skyline selfies
  • Birthdays and “we just felt like it” celebrations
  • Pre-afternoon plans in the City (you’ll float out nicely fed and lightly spritzed)

Need to know

  • When: Saturdays, 12:00–15:00 in 90-minute sittings
  • Dietaries: Strong veggie/vegan options
  • Booking: Reservations recommended (it fills fast)

The Seen in the City verdict

Savage Garden has nailed bottomless brunch: views, vibe, and a menu that feels creative without trying too hard. The pinsa is light enough to keep you going, and the spritz list is genuinely interesting (alcoholic and not). Come for the skyline, stay for the jerk-pineapple-hot-honey situation, and leave already planning your next visit.

The Food & Dining Experience at Smiths of Smithfield Restaurant

We are lead through to The Grill, which holds a 1 AA Rosette. There is celebrated for its premium steaks, including a 16oz, 28-day aged Scottish bone-in ribeye that not only tastes divine but is presented beautifully too. The quality of the meat is incredible, with each dish cooked to emphasise tenderness and flavour. The rooftop restaurant offers a lighter menu featuring fresh seafood and an extensive wine list, complemented by panoramic views of the City and St. Paul’s Cathedral – what more could you ask for when dining in the city?

Consider staying during off-peak seasons (January–March and late October–November) when rates can drop by up to 40%. Booking mid-week or using loyalty programmes can also make a huge difference.

Breaking into finance requires more than a substantial degree and a polished CV. Students and ambitious professionals must also learn to network with industry leaders and peers. The upcoming 2025 UK Student Finance Summit offers exactly this, bringing together over 1,000 students and 30+ senior finance leaders for career-defining opportunities.

This prestigious event, taking place on October 31, 2025, at the Kensington Conference and Event Centre, has established itself as the UK’s largest student finance gathering. Attendees will network with professionals from Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Citi, and other top institutions.

Why Networking Events Matter for Finance Careers

Landing a role in finance depends heavily on who you know and what you understand about the industry. The UK Student Finance Summit addresses both needs by creating direct access to senior professionals who shape hiring decisions and market strategies.

Students from Oxford, Cambridge, LSE, Imperial College, UCL, Warwick, and Durham will gather alongside working professionals, creating networking opportunities that often lead to internships and graduate positions.

The summit recognises this by combining access with education. Panel discussions feature industry leaders who share insights into current market dynamics and what they look for in candidates. Speakers include John Storey, Partner and Co-Head of Equities Distribution at Goldman Sachs, Mark Aedy, Chairman of EMEA & Asia at Moelis & Company, and Georgina Brittain, Managing Director and Senior Portfolio Manager at JP Morgan Asset Management. These sessions will also teach students to use tools like TradingView to evaluate markets and identify opportunities effectively.

Beyond the main panels, attendees can join selective breakout sessions covering specific divisions within banking, application workshops led by recruiters, and senior roundtables offering intimate discussions with professionals. The day also includes a stock pitch competition judged by active traders and bankers, giving participants a tangible CV boost and practical experience in presenting investment ideas.

What To Expect From UK Student Finance Summit 2025

The summit runs from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and packs substantial value into a single day. Registration opens at 8:30 AM, followed by opening speeches at 9:00 AM that set the tone for the event. The event highlights include:

Panel Discussions on Career Fundamentals

Senior bankers share their career stories and the choices that shaped their paths. Panels cover buy-side versus sell-side roles, different banking divisions, alternative routes into finance, and how AI is reshaping finance jobs. The “Real Talk from Recruiters and Recent Hires” session provides application insights that textbooks and career services often miss.

Selective Breakout Sessions

Limited-capacity workshops dive deeper into specific topics. The CISI workshop, finance skills sessions, and senior roundtables on investment banking divisions operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for these sessions opens mid-September, making early ticket purchases essential for securing spots.

Stock Pitch Competition Final Stage

Career26’s stock pitch competition allows students to demonstrate analytical skills and market knowledge. The final stage occurs during the summit, with judges evaluating presentations and announcing winners. This competition offers excellent resume material and recognition from industry professionals.

Structured Networking Breaks

Morning coffee breaks and a lunch networking session provide dedicated time to connect with speakers and peers. Light refreshments, including sandwiches, tea, and coffee, are included in the ticket price.

How To Get Tickets For the UK Student Finance Summit 2025

Tickets for the summit are available through Eventbrite, with limited spots remaining. The event is exclusively for university students, including 2025 graduates. Student ID verification occurs at the door on the event day.

The ticket price covers all sessions, workshops, networking breaks, and a light lunch. Students from low-income backgrounds can apply for reserved free tickets by contacting zhan@career26.com with supporting documentation. International students currently enrolled at universities are welcome to attend alongside UK-based students.

Protein,mate healthy takeaway london

The flagship Protein, mate space has opened in the City of London, introducing a bold, nutrition-forward approach to fast-casual takeaway. At its core is a curated, protein-rich menu that reimagines the traditional grab-and-go offering.

Central to the menu are the Morning and Midday Trays, each featuring a signature protein bake and customisable with a seasonal crunch, dip and salad mix. Each complete tray delivers 30–50 grams of protein, redefining the ‘meal deal’ for today’s busy Londoner.

Inspired by Family, Informed by Experience

Founded by Australian-born Luke Fredberg, Protein, mate was inspired by a simple realisation: his family struggled to consume enough protein to power their busy days. Determined to change that, Luke began crafting these tray bakes in his own kitchen, blending vibrant flavours with everyday convenience.

“Protein is a daily essential, and getting enough shouldn’t feel like a chore,” said Luke Fredberg, Founder of Protein, mate. “Endless chicken and broccoli just wasn’t inspiring, so I began creating delicious, nutrient dense bakes for my family. Friends tried them and kept asking for a way to enjoy them on-the-go. Fast forward 12 months, and the idea has come to life in the heart of the City of London.”

The Smoothies

Complementing the food options are Protein, mate’s signature Cloud Smoothies. Inspired by the Los Angeles’ cult smoothie scene, each blend features a proprietary coconut cloud swirl with a choice of plant-based protein or organic, cold-filtered whey and enhanced with functional ingredients, including adaptogens, probiotics, and antibacterial elements. The result: a decadent yet functional protein boost, crafted for busy professionals on the move.

A Menu Committed to Tasty Recipes and Protein Content

The entire menu was overseen by triple board-certified internal medicine physician Dr. Sanjeet K. Baidwan, ensuring nutritional integrity. The menu avoids ultra-processed ingredients, artificial sweeteners, gums, and fillers, opting instead for real ingredients and thoughtful provisions that sustain its community of ‘mates’ throughout the day while cutting through the noise that often surrounds protein. The brand has also introduced a set of standards, called “Metrics, mate,” underscoring Protein, mate’s commitment to transparency around recipes, ingredients, and protein content.

Powered by Collaboration

Protein, mate has partnered with the UK’s leading food development consultancy, Egg Soldiers, and specialty roaster Ozone Coffee, bringing together expertise in food, nutrition, and exceptional coffee.

“Luke’s vision for Protein, mate redefines fast-casual takeaway, merging nutritional excellence with vibrant, global flavours. We’re excited to help launch this unique and practical concept in London,” said Toph Ford, Director at Egg Soldiers.

With ethically sourced beans and a focus on quality, Ozone provides a coffee experience that enhances and complements Protein, mate’s menu and signature Cloud Smoothies.

Expect the unexpected, menu highlights include nostalgic nods to Aussie classics like a lamington filled with protein cream, blue spirulina eggs, dirty martini dip and a London-exclusive, protein cold foam layered over Ozone coffee.

Shaping the Future of Fast-Casual Takeaway

From a family kitchen to the heart of the City, Protein, mate offers a fresh approach to fast-casual takeaway. By combining convenience with nutrient dense, flavour packed food, it delivers exactly what London needs: smart, satisfying meals for life on-the-move.

With strong backing and a clear expansion strategy, Protein mate is designed to grow beyond its flagship site and bring its protein-forward approach to new areas of the City and other neighbourhoods across London.

If you’re looking to sprinkle a little extra magic on your festive season, Paultons Park – the UK’s number one theme park and home to Peppa Pig World – should be right at the top of your Christmas list. This year, the park’s Celebration of Christmas returns bigger and brighter than ever, with even more twinkling lights, festive shows, and extended opening dates that make it the perfect day out for families this winter.

Paultons Park Celebration of Christmas

Expect the park to be transformed into a sparkling winter wonderland, complete with hundreds of dazzling illuminations, joyful music, and a host of festive characters ready to spread Christmas cheer.

Little ones will love seeing Peppa Pig and friends dressed in their adorable Christmas outfits, with daily meet-and-greet opportunities in Peppa Pig World. Over at the Show Stage, Santa’s Christmas Wish Show brings the magic to life with singing, dancing, and appearances from beloved characters including Billy and Belinda the elves, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the Reindeer, and Father Christmas himself.

And of course, no visit would be complete without a stop at Santa’s Grotto – where families can meet Father Christmas, pose for photos, and encounter reindeer, polar bears, and toy-making elves. The grotto will be open from 6th to 24th December, but early booking is highly recommended as spaces fill up fast.
