&Soul Shoreditch is London’s hottest new wellness space (literally). Home to a 40-person sauna, the community-focused venue boasts a beautiful yoga studio, plant-based café, and more. Open to the public from May 9, Seen in the City attended an intimate launch party to explore the Sanctuary before the daily wellness programme kicks off. With a range of events such as workshops, live performances, and immersive banquets planned over the coming months, there’s plenty of fun ahead.

The thing to know about the space is that there’s a lot going on under one roof — as you might expect from a self-described ‘experimental wellness space — but none of that detracts from the atmosphere.

Stepping inside the converted Victorian warehouse on Cheshire Street, the outside world melts away. Gone is the noise of nearby Brick Lane and you’re instead offered the chance to relax, unwind, and reconnect.

Immediately, you find yourself in the plant-based café. With decor inspired by Paulo Coelho’s ‘The Alchemist’ and food served up by Palm Greens, it’s a great place to meet and make friends.

Next door, there’s a high-end alcohol-free bar, and trust me, the drinks are delicious, with prices from £4. It’s the brainchild of Karma Campbell, the medical herbalist behind the bar (and the award-winning vegan and halal-friendly formulas).

Both the café and bar are open daily for the public, and the ground floor is also home to an impressive event space, ideal for &Soul Shoreditch’s festival-inspired programming (more on that soon).

For paying guests and members, there’s also a yoga studio and co-work upstairs. Then there’s the Sensorium at the heart of the venue. Co-designed with the British Sauna Society’s Katie Bracher, expect a circular sauna in one half of the Sensorium, with ice baths and rain showers in the other.

It’s clear in their long list of attractions for the community the &Soul team wants to welcome in the space (following on from their first location in Southall).

But what’s really special is the festival-inspired programming, with events planned for each of the spaces, including the sauna, bringing together different community partners.For instance, spa lovers can expect Nordic, Aufguss, and Balkan sauna ceremonies, alongside music-led events, life drawing, multi-sensory sound journeys, and yoga (with the temperature dialed down). There’s even talk of sauna raves.

For my part, I prefer a relaxing sauna session, so I was glad to spend some quiet time in the beautiful setting. I’d not tried contrast therapy before, but now understand the attraction. The sauna offered the ultimate relaxation. Then it was time for a dip in the ice bath, and while it wasn’t relaxing, it was invigorating.

Leaving &Soul Shoreditch, I felt much more refreshed than when I arrived. I can only imagine the experience will be that much more powerful when the venue is full, bringing people together.

The team told me community, connection, and belonging is at the heart of what they do, and it’s clear they can’t wait to throw open the doors and welcome everyone in.

Since cleansing is the foundation of any good skincare routine and the first step to getting that gorgeous clear skin you’ve always wanted, we’re going to look at a few of the best hydrating cleansers that will take your routine to the next level.

Things To Remember

  1. When you’re choosing a cleanser, consider your skin type. Even oily skin needs the right kind of hydration, so don’t make the mistake of thinking that avoiding hydrating products will minimise oiliness and shine because that might even make the issues worse. All skin needs moisture, so building that from the first product in the routine is essential.
  2. When cleansing, you should either use your hands or a natural wash cloth; never use anything abrasive or rough that may cause micro tears on your skin. The Miracle Morning Routine is important as it sets the tone for your entire day, helping you start with focus, energy, and a positive mindset. You will find you achieve your goals faster, feel more positive and are healthier and happier. 

What is the ‘Miracle Morning Routine’ 

The Miracle Morning Routine was popularised by Hala bestselling author and keynote speaker on a mission to ‘elevate the consciousness of humanity, one morning at a time.’ It is essentially a structured framework for starting the day with intention and purpose and is based on the acronyms S.A.V.E.R.S. This stands for Silence, Affirmations, Visualisation, Exercise, Reading and Scribing. It is essentially tapping deeper into how you think and feel and promoting healthy habits with this, focusing on your mindfulness and wellbeing from the inside out.

Step 1

Silence (5–10 minutes)

Spend 5-10 minutes when you first wake up staying still and letting your thoughts wander. You could meditate, practise deep breathing or pray if you’re religious. You can do this laying in bed with your eyes closed, or sit somewhere else in your home where you feel peaceful. If you find it helps, try a meditation app such as Calm or Insight Timer. 

Step 2 

Affirmations (5 minutes)

Once you’re feeling calm and grounded, it’s time to get some affirmations together. Spend about five minutes speaking or writing positive affirmations that align with your goals and values. This could be anything from “I am worthy of love and respect”, to “I am capable today of achieving my goals.” Repeat these three times each and really focus on the words you’re saying to help yourself really believe them.

Step Three

Visualization (5–10 minutes)

Visualisation can be an incredibly powerful way of helping your goals and ideal life come to fruition. Harnessing the power of manifestation, you should close your eyes and vividly imagine achieving your goals or living the life you’ve always dreamt of. Focus on the emotions you feel and the little details of these dreams and goals. You could create a vision board, write down notes or use guided visualisation tools to help inspire you.

Step Four

Exercise (10–30 minutes)

Now your mind is awake, it’s time to get your body active. Engage in a light exercise for ten to thirty minutes that will get you in the best shape to start the day. You could do pilates or a yoga routine, a quick stretching routine, go on a run, or head on a brisk walk around the block. Even ten minutes of working out in the morning can boost your endorphins and help you feel more focused and ready to face the day ahead. 

Step Five

Reading (10–20 minutes)

Starting your day with even ten minutes of reading is a great way to expand your knowledge, inspire growth and motivate you for the day ahead. You should read personal development books, motivational articles or educational materials. This can be in the form of Kindle books, printed books, magazines or journals. If you don’t want to read, audiobooks are a great alternative and you can listen to these while making your breakfast for the day ahead. Remember a healthy diet is really important both for your physical and mental health. Try having a smoothie or green juice for breakfast for a nutritious start.

Step Six

Scribing (5–10 minutes)

The final step in the miracle morning routine is to spend some time writing down your thoughts and feelings. Journaling can help you to clarify your thoughts, reflect and track your progress. You can write about your goals, lessons learned, creative ideas and what you’re grateful for in life. You can use a simple notebook for this, invest in a bullet journal or get a digital journaling app to help you out.
